Our LEWs sign off on mission-critical and government-grade installations — from a switchboard changeout at the Health Promotion Board and an ATS replacement at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to security infrastructure for Certis. Two in-house Grade 8 LEWs cover installations up to 150 kVA, and a partner Grade 9 LEW covers larger, higher-capacity jobs.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Licensed Electrical Worker (LEW) and when do I legally need one?
Under Singapore's Electricity Act, electrical installations above a set load must be operated under a Licensed Electrical Worker who takes legal responsibility for their safety. Most non-domestic premises and larger installations therefore need a named LEW. BSH provides Grade 8 LEWs who can be appointed as your responsible worker.
How do I apply for an EMA electrical installation licence?
The EMA electrical installation licence is applied for via EMA with a Licensed Electrical Worker named as responsible for the installation. BSH handles the full process — inspection, documentation, SLD endorsement and submission — and renews the licence for you each year.
My building or unit changed hands — can BSH take over the electrical installation?
Yes. We can take over an existing installation as your appointed LEW. We inspect and test it, rectify any defects, then endorse the installation and update the EMA licence to reflect the new responsible worker.
What load can your LEWs approve?
Our in-house Grade 8 LEWs are authorised for installations up to 150 kVA — covering the full range of commercial fit-outs, landed homes and most industrial premises. For larger or higher-capacity installations, we work with a partner Grade 9 LEW, so bigger jobs are covered too.
Do you provide periodic inspection and testing?
Yes. We carry out statutory periodic inspection and testing to SS 638, including protection and injection testing, and issue the required certification.
How do I renew my EMA electrical installation licence in Singapore?
An EMA electrical installation licence is renewed periodically (typically each year) with a Licensed Electrical Worker named as the responsible worker. For clients we look after, BSH manages the entire renewal — periodic inspection, any rectification, LEW re-endorsement and the EMA submission — so your licence never lapses.
Can BSH provide LEW certification for my electrical installation?
Yes. Our Grade 8 Licensed Electrical Worker inspects and tests your installation to SS 638 and EMA requirements, then issues the LEW endorsement and certification it needs to be operated legally — whether it is a new installation, a take-over, or a licence renewal.
